Requirements for participants
- Technical level: intermediate to advanced

Following the success of his first class at the Harmonica Masters Workshops 2022, in 2023 Joel Andersson will expand on his insights into the techniques and styles used in Irish harmonica and explore their use in a range of new pieces. The class will offer a continuation of Joel’s workshop in 2022 and is suitable both for previous attendees, and for new students.
On the Thursday, Joel will be joined for one day by his duo partner, traditional Irish singer Colm Doyle. Together they will take workshop attendees on a hands-on journey from simple accompaniment to embellishment of Irish songs through rhythm, harmony and dynamics. They will also highlight the strong similarities between many Irish songs and tunes.
Singing to the backing of a single instrument was, and in many cases still is, common to many traditional folk music styles. What is less common is the duo combination of harmonica and voice. Colm and Joel will dive down into the factors needed to create good accompaniment in Irish song, in this case focusing particularly on songs that also could be played as an instrumental tune.
First of all, Joel will teach the melody line and then Colm will add another dimension by letting the dance tune become a song. Together they will discuss their original approach to Irish songs and how backing can make or break a song.
Workshop entitles you to the following:
- Minimum 11 teaching units of 75 min. or 90 min.
- Admission to the sessions in the Kesselhaus on all days
- Admission to the Harmonica Masters Concerts on Thursday, Friday and Saturday
- Admission to supporting program events on all days
